Task
Issues: Students will develop a research portfolio that investigates keychain made with natural fibers, especially hemp rope, and examines how traditional techniques (like knotting and weaving) are used in crafts. This portfolio will include an analysis of existing products, identification of a design problem, and creation of a list of specifications for your keychain. They also create keychain from hemp rope.
Gole: Your goal is to explore existing products, analyze user needs, and design specifications to help guide your own keychain design. And then create keychain using hemp rope, knotting techniques, and weaving.
Role: You will act as craftsmen, marketers, or artists. You as designer and researcher tasked with developing an eco-friendly, marketable. You must conduct thoughtful research before begin their design and creation.
Audience: Your audience is primary audience is classmates and teacher, acting as potential customers, collaborators, or critics. Students research findings will help guide your design and will be shared through a research portfolio.
Situation: You will face a situation how to make keychain from natural fiber and be able to present their work. To create a product that stands out, students must first investigate similar products, understand their target users, and establish clear design criteria.
Product: You will create keychain from natural fibers hemp rope
Standard/Criteria: Your product will be judged by Criterion A and B
Performance and standard:
● Are able to develop an idea into a concept
● Are able to change the natural fiber form of hemp rope and kur rope into a
product
● Are able to understand keychain making technniques, especially node
technique
● Eco-standard: Fully biodegradable, no plastic components
● Are able to be creative with the use of used hemp rope
● Are able to see business opportunities through patchworks

The student is able to: i. explains and justifies the need for a solution to a problem ii. states and prioritizes the main points of research needed to develop a solution to the problem, with minimal guidance iii. describes the main features of an existing product that inspires a solution to the problem iv. presents the main findings of relevant research. |
You are able to: i. Provide detailed analysis of 4–5 existing products (pros/cons, materials, techniques used). ii.Clearly define and justify their target market. iii.Create a specific list of specifications (material type, strength, durability, color, functionality, aesthetic appeal, environmental impact). iv.presents the process and technique for making keychain |
5-6 |
The student is able to: i.explains the need for a solution to a problem ii.states and prioritizes the main points of research needed to develop a solution to the problem, with some guidance iii.outlines the main features of an existing product that inspires a solution to the problem iv. outlines the main findings of relevant research. |
You are able to: i.Provide detailed analysis of 3-4 existing products ii.Research eco-bracelets from different cultures or brands. iii.Compare 3–4 existing products (materials, design, technique, Functionality). iv.Create a clear list of functional, aesthetic, and environmental specs (e.g., biodegradable, adjustable size, natural color). |

You are able to: i.Explain that natural bracelets are popular or eco-friendly. ii.Describe 2–3 similar products (materials, style). iii.Compare 2-3 existing products (materials, design, technique, Functionality). iv.Write basic measurable specifications (e.g., “It should fit a wrist size of 10–20 cm”). |
1-2 |
The student is able to: i.states the need for a solution to a problem ii.states the findings of research. |
You are able to: i.Briefly mention why they want to make a keychain (e.g., “Keychain from natural fiber are nice”) ii.Include a couple of keychain pictures with no real analysis. Write basic specifications like “It should look good.” |
