Task

Issues: Student will create Decorative Mask Painting. Students Create a painted mask inspired by a contemporary mask-making culture from around the world. Before students begin their design process, students must complete the Inquiry and Analysis phase (Criterion A), where students investigate the cultural context, function, and aesthetics of contemporary masks.

Goal                            : The goal is to explore, analyze, and design a culturally-inspired painted mask, drawing upon global traditions of mask-making and their social, spiritual, or ceremonial significance..

Role                            : You are a young product designer working for a world art and design museum, tasked with creating a culturally respectful, functional, and aesthetically expressive mask that reflects the spirit and traditions of a chosen culture.

Audience                     : The audience is the museum’s exhibition curation team and international visitors who will view the mask and learn about its inspiration and cultural background.

Situation                     : Global mask-making traditions are disappearing. The museum wants to highlight cultural diversity and creativity by displaying student-designed masks that respectfully reinterpret traditional elements from around the world.

Product                       : You will create You will produce a design folder and a painted mask prototype based on research into a traditional mask-making culture of your choice (e.g., Balinese, African, Venetian, Mexican, or Japanese).

Standard/Criteria      : Your product will be judged by Criterion A dan CPerformance and standard:

-      Demonstrate thorough research on a chosen mask-making culture (Criterion A)

-      Explain the cultural context and function of traditional masks

-      Identify and analyze how visual elements (color, pattern, material) communicate meaning

-      Develop a design brief and design specification informed by research

-      Create an original mask design based on cultural references
